The first page collects overview information for the introduction of the WebQuest.

WebQuest Title: This is the title of the WebQuest.

General Information: This information appears in the introduction panel. The introduction panel pops up at the very beginning of the WebQuest and it can be summoned by students at any time during the WebQuest.

Default Node Icon: This is a graphical representation of the node. You can change this if you would like by clicking on the image region and selecting a different jpg or swf file.

Note: There can be only one introduction page; therefore, you will not see a set of add and delete buttons.

Each page after the introduction page has four parts to configure. The first part is described in this step, and the other parts are described in subsequent steps.

Website Label: Type in a label that describes the website. This label should be short and to the point.

The label has two functions. The first function is to identify the node to the student. The second function of the label is to uniquely identify this node. You will have the option to link other nodes (child nodes) to this node (parent). What uniquely identifies this node is the label plus the website link.

Once you create a label and then link other nodes to this node, you break the link if you change the text in the label. If you need to change the text, be sure to navigate to all of the child nodes and re-establish the link. You will learn how to link nodes together soon.

Website Link: Type in the web address that this node refers to.

Important Info: Type in information that will help the student make best use of the website before entering it.

Node Icon: If you want to use an icon other than the default icon previously specified, you can select it here. If you change your mind and would like to remove the selected image, right click on the image are and select the "delete" menu option.

Select the Parent: Main nodes don't have parents. By default, a node's parent is set to 'None'.

Once you create a node it will appear on the Parent list on other pages. The Parent list is the list that you see on the right side of each page.

If you wish a node to be a child of another node, then select that other node on the Parent list.

The effect will be that the child node will appear like a satellite to the parent node.

You can add as many nodes as you wish by clicking the "+" icon in the upper left corner of the page.

Recognize that when a student first clicks on a node, the Important Information displays as well as any child nodes that might be related to this node.

The second click on a node sends the student off to the website in a new Browser window.

As a designer of a WebQuest you can go as deep as like. In other words, you can have children of children of children of parents.

A parent can also have a half-dozen or more children. There's a practical limit, however. The more children, the smaller the node.
