Energy Video Scenario Challenge

You are in state government charged with energy policy and providing tax incentives for industries that will reduce carbon emissions and provide energy more efficiently.

Your state is on the east coast. It receives on average 4.5 sun hours per day and a state average of 5 mph for wind speed on land. Consider these factors. In a minute, we'll ask you to use this information to choose the best form of alternative energy to support.

But first, let's review the effects of climate change. Go to the next page.

How this works

On the next page, re-read the scenario.
Hover over the numbered buttons to learn what options they represent.
Make a decision. Decide what energy source is best in reducing carbon emissions and most cost effective in terms of capital cost and operations and maintenance. Make an intelligent best guess.
You will earn an option's full points on your first try. If an option is worth 10 points you will earn the full 10 points. If an option is worth 0 points, you will earn 0. The points are based on a widely used cost study produced by Lazard, an international asset management firm.
You can keep on trying. On your second try, you will will earn 1/2 of the option's points. On the third try, you will earn 1/3 and so on.
When you select an option, watch the video segment. If we want you to watch only part of the segment, we will automatically start and pause the segment.
After you watch the segment, click on "Show Feedback". You will see a response and your total number of points.
You will not earn more points than the total value of the scenario which, in this case, is 20.

You are a state legislator. Choose an energy source you will promote through tax credits. For each choice, view the video and then click on feedback. Each choice earns points. The points earned, however, are divided by the number of tries. The more tries, the less points you will earn per try.
